Ottó Farkas

Ottó Farkas graduated from the Department of Inner Asian Studies of the Eötvös Loránd University in 1993, majoring in Mongolian Studies. He also received a training in social anthropology.

His first publications came from Mongolian ethnography. However, his interest soon shifted to social anthropology. He has carried out his work and relief tasks as a mission being a staff member of various Canadian aid organizations (for a long time as an employee of World Vision International), non-governmental organizations and the United Nations, in many cases in crisis areas. He still lives in Canada.

In 2002, Ottó Farkas decided to donate his collection of mainly Mongolian books to the Department of Altaic Studies of the University of Szeged. The books have been incorporated into the library stock of the department. The gift is indicated in the books by the seal with the inscription “Farkas Ottó ajándéka” [Gift of Ottó Farkas]”.
