Oriental Collection

What is it exactly?

The Oriental Collection was established at the end of 2004 when the onetime library of the Department of Altaic Studies and book bequests of several excellent orientalist experts were integrated. The collection including nearly 50.000 documents belongs to the internationally known and acknowledged special collections.

The mission of the collection is to promote the research work of oriental studies at the University of Szeged and to collect and maintain the necessary Hungarian and international specialized literature for the acquirement of oriental studies and Hungarian prehistory.

Where can I find it?

The collection is located on the ground floor of the Klebelsberg Library, its entrance is at the Street Batthyány end of the Atrium. It can be visited between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. on weekdays but it is closed on Saturdays.

How can I use it?

The elaboration percentage of the holdings of the Oriental Collection is nearly 100 per cent. The bibliographic data of the already elaborated works can be browsed through the catalog of the library.

Those parts of the collection which come from bequests are excessively protected, therefore these documents are only for local use. The general circulation premises of the library applies for all the other documents.
